Changing theme in Vista

Hi!

For school, I have to use a program called Alice. It's pretty cool (but basic for me... It's a pretty face for java, and C# is just java with stuff in it). Anyway, this app isn't really built for Aero, it tends to hang a little. However, it does run fine in classic mode. This is all fine and good, but it is annoying to change the theme every time I start the app.

Is there anyway I can make windows change the theme when I start and stop Alice.exe?

Thanks, Vista

EDIT: errrm... Sorry. I figured it out on my own...

For future reference, right click the exe, choose properties. On the compatibility tab, make it use XP SP 2, and check "disable visual themes". That seems to work well.

I remember hearing about Alice during Randy Pausch's "Last Lecture." Reflecting on the program, do you think it will be helpful (and "cool") for non-programming types? Also, is it absolutely necessary to use Alice for your course? Would your teacher be more impressed if you did the assignments "by hand?" (make sure to have permission, of course, though).

Yes!

Go into the compatibility panel in the "Properties" menu for the main program, select "Disable desktop composition"

I bet you'll say a) "Do you work for Microsoft all of a sudden?!" (trust me, I don't. Seriously, never assume such nonsense) and b) "I'm not the administrator and so can't play with the main program"

I'll let you choose which, or both if you're feeling extra lucky

She wouldn't want me to do assignments by hand yet... We will "get to that" later, I assume.

And yes, it is very good for non-programming people. (Or just people that are not familiar with OOP. It is a *very* good OOP teacher. )
