Starting with java!

Hello everybody, this is Chetan here. I have done some of the C and C++ basics( or say more than just basics) and now I want to learn Java. I have no knowledge about java but of that it is a high level programming language and is derived from C.

Do you know of some good book or better some online tutorial. I have a tutorial but I don't know which compiler to use and where to get it. Which is the best one you think?

Pleas help me with any of your knowledge.

Hello, I'm brand spanking new to these forums, and was excited to find someone I could help out so early. Anyways; Java code is compiled into code for the JVM. So the only real compiler to use is the Sun JDK. If you install both the JDK and Eclipse for Java Developers, you'll be set.
