Many of you have been asking "Why aren't there more members?" or "How can I help?" This post is to address that.
While the staff will continue to aid in recruiting new members, the task ultimately turns to our current members. The most powerful type of referral is word-of-mouth and suggestion. We can plaster advertisements all over the Internet, but those will probably have a 100:1::view:click ratio, while a referral has a 99% chance of getting a new member.
Consider this: At the time of writing, we have 3,333 members. If each of these members referred ONE person each month, in a years time we would have 13.6 MILLION members. If each person referred two members a month, we could reach 1.7 billion members in one year. Three members, and I think we would cap at the world's population. It's unlikely that we'll ever refer that many people, but we can start by each referring just one person. It's a community effort. It's a community duty.
How? You can promote (not advertise or spam about) YoungCoders by recommending us to a friend. Put a small, out-of-the-way link in your signature on other forums.
Tell your friends about us and recommend they sign up.
Place a small banner on your website linking to our website. The list goes on and on.
If you don't feel like promoting, keep asking questions! Answer questions, provide support, and make suggestions. Remember, quality posts are the key.
What's your benefit? While we don't have the funds to directly give each of you a reward for referring members, the benefit of more members is that there's more we can do. Our projects can move faster. Your questions will be answered quicker. The list goes on.
