RSS parsing method (Yahoo! Pipes?)

Hi!
I'm going to create website that aggregates rss news in next week. I'm wondering if using yahoo pipes is a good solution.
Maybe I misunderstood the pipes conception but it seems that it's supposed to process rss channels.
My second attempt (if not pipes) would be just getting the site content via cURL and then, processing it using php built-in functions.
I'm also wondering, how should i store this kind of data ? I mean - MySQL, some MyISAM, but what optimization methods should I use to remain this kind of side stable and fast ?
Thanks for your support.
