Happy April Fools Everyone!
Hot on the heals of a few organizational changes at YoungCoders, we have been busy at work creating a new batch of changes that will make YoungCoders one of the more popular sites on the Internet. Ready? I hope you are because it's going to be exciting!
But, before I announce the changes, here's a report on how we are doing:
- We have been taking in so much money from advertisements that we really don't know what to do with it all. You may be thinking, "What advertisements?" Heck, we barely even have a link exchange! But that's because we made a slient change a few weeks ago that uses a recent breakthrough in subliminal advertising. Whenever you visit our site now, a sound file will play through your speakers. Inaudible to the unsuspecting brain, this message promotes a product without getting in your way. It's quite amazing and I will write an article on how to start using it shortly.
- We've been noticing a really mind-blowing pattern in our new registration numbers. It'll be easier to show by example here. On January 1, 3 members registered. On January 2, 1 member registered. Jan 3, 4 members. Jan 4, 1 member. Jan 5, 5 members,. Jan 6, 9 members. Notice the pattern? Yep! That's pi. It seems that pi appears in other places than just circles. So, if you are curious, you can find our registration stats here.
And now on to what you are waiting for. Here's the latest:
- Firstly, we are going to adopt a new technology that will increase our site speed and save on bandwidth. People are using the buzz word, coined as 'gopher', to refer to this technology. So far there are only about 10 sites on the Internet that utilize this technology and we plan on making it 11. So, without further a-do, check out the YoungCoders alpha development site. I'm working non-stop on getting this up and should be ready in a week or two.
- Secondly, we are making a behind the scene change. We realize that since we are going to switch to gopher and use bleeding edge software, what is stopping us from using PHP6? So, effective immediately, we are switching hosts again to one that supports PHP6.
- Thirdly, I am pleased to announce that YoungCoders is going to become a 501(3)c non-profit with tax deductible donation status. I just got an email that approved us for this status. The only thing we must do is change our domain name to YoungCoders.org, but that shouldn't be too bad. Becoming a 501(3)c will also grant us a registered trademark on YC, so whenever you see YC, you must write it as: YC(R). It's a way to show that you are loyal.
- Finally, we realize that our swear filter has got to go. Everyone has complained of it to me and I realize that we must do something about it! So, we're adopting a new system in a couple of days. This system will filter out anything negative what-so-ever. For example, saying "No pig can fly" will be starred out. This aligns well with our core values. We are a happy community and we will not tolerate such negative talk. If a pig wanted to fly, he or she could!
Well, that's it for now. It's going to be an exciting time! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
